Well dear readers it is the last Tuesday of March and believe it or not a month since I started the Spring into Yoga Challenge. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?
What have I learned? Well, firstly that whilst Janu Sirsasana and Bhada Konasana may never be my favourite poses, the thought of them is far worse than the pose itself, especially now I have learned to let go! Secondly that me and Dhanurasana are never going to be friends, but more importantly I’ve learned that it’s OK to not be friends with certain postures. I’m not suggesting giving up. I’m not suggesting saying to yourself “oh I’ll never do this” and never try again, but eventually every yogi(ni) is going to find a posture that is really hard, or that they may never be able to do without modification. And that is what’s OK. To accept and love our bodies exactly as they are right now!
With that in mind, and inspired by this post over at Sal’s Already Pretty Blog, I give you five things that are awesome about my body. Yes, I may have health issues and back issues and a dodgy hip but I also have an amazing body that lives every single day.
I would love it if you would join me with your list of five, either in the comments or as a post on your own blog with a link for us all in the comments.
1. My body has core muscles of steel. Seriously. I can hold Navasana for sooo long without shaking!
2. My body has a cute ass. I know this isn’t a reason to do yoga, but the yoga butt is a nice side effect!
3. My body cycles me miles and miles every week, I can feel myself get stronger every single day and I’m starting to not miss having a car because of this.
4. My body may not be able to do handstands anymore but it has a lot of fun trying!
5. My body houses my brain which is smart, silly and geeky in equal measures.

The Suburban Yogini is taking a Spring Break – I’ll be back for “things i love thursday” and then normal service will resume after the weekend. Don’t miss me too much dear readers

Crikey – this is a challenge – I don’t do enough Yoga!
1. I’ve been basically blessed with good health – just a bit of asthma which is under control.
2. My body homed and delivered two wonderful children.
3. I like being taller than average.
4. When I do work at Yoga practice I am still pretty supple, despite my advancing years!
5. I like the fact my brain is quick and retains useful and interesting (and useless) information.
Happy Easter – enjoy your break Rachel! xx
ouuu, I love this idea!!!! after my ridiculously stressful day I’ll be having today, I will be sure to write up a quick ‘my body is awesome’ post
I did this over at my blog – a great idea! (espeically on a day when you’re feeling all bloated and gross :-S) It wasn’t easy actually, but it brought up some things that I’m grateful for without having ever considered that I’m grateful! Thanks
I’ve been doing so much better with my practice since I had that “blog confession” about striving and not being able to achieve certain poses. I’m just doing simple yoga now and relishing 10 minutes of Dancing Warriors every day!
As for my five:
1. My legs are strong, and despite ankle and knee injuries, they still do what I need them to do to get me through the day.
2. I love my pretty eyes that have no discernible color and that take on different hues according to what I wear. (Or should I say, what I wear affects how they appear.)
3. My body is very flexible, even if some parts aren’t strong, and when I stretch, it gives me a great capacity to unwind.
4. I love my fast fingers on the keyboard.
5. My eyes are lined with crow’s feet which means I’ve spent a lot of time cycling out in the beautiful sun, and I’ve smiled a lot.
I can’t believe the end of March is here!! Where did the month go? The last two weeks have been slightly manic and my daily yoga practice has slipped off a bit but I’ll be back on track for April! I did have a few breakthroughs in my approach to Ardha Chandrasana at the beginning of the month so will continue to work on this pose..
Love the ‘our bodies are awesome’ idea, have been thinking about it all day – so am going to blog about that over the weekend
Happy Easter Break!

Hello, I have been reading your blog for some time now but have never commented. I believe giving praise to your body is the perfect opportunity!
1. My body is getting stronger every day;
2. My body is more flexible than I thought it was – hey I used to be a “yoga is not for me I can’t touch my toes” kind of girl;
3. Overall I have good health;
4. Opening the “heart centre” and standing tall = bigger boobs (hahahahaha)
5. I am sure there is still a lot to learn from my body, even the tiniest cell, and it will never cease to amaze me.
Happy Easter!
Your blog is great! I love it! I also love your attitude and your outlook on life! We did Bhada Konasana in this morning’s class and I felt so stiff. It’s never been easy for me, but I am learning to like it a bit more each time I practice it.
My five:
1) I like how strong my shoulders are. They are solid and it makes me feel strong!
2) My two feet are so good to me. I stand on them every day and they never fail me.
3) I like my skin and how healthy and young it makes me look.
4) My body can handle so much, much more than I think it can.
5) I like that my flexibility keeps increasing and never ceases to amaze me!
1)i dont breathe “backwards”
2) i fall asleep easily
3) i am flexible as a small child
4) i can *usually* accept comments about physical things
5) hair is thick as a rope
thanks for the self lovin of the day
1. I love that my body tells me what it needs (and usually I listen)!
2. I love the strength and tone my body has gotten from yoga
3. I love that overall I am healthy most of the time
4. I love that my body is addicted to yoga – cause so am I!
5. I love that my body doesn’t like to sit or lie in conventional ways.
That was harder than I thought!! Nice exercise.
Ohhh, I so love this post. Will have to give this some thought and piggy back in a post. I’ve missed your blog so much!
