“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so”
– Shakespeare (Hamlet ActII Scene II)
“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done”
– Bruce Lee
I sometimes wonder whether half of life’s issues come down to over-complication of everything. If we just took some time out to stop thinking about being and just be would life be easier? One thing I’m learning during 2010, my year of mindfulness, is that “there are more things on heaven and earth… than are dreamt of in your philosophy” (Hamlet again), and that maybe we’re not meant to understand. Maybe we’re just meant to sit back, trust in life and enjoy the ride.
So today’s “things i love thursday” is dedicated to the simple things in life.
* Cherry blossom.
* Sunshine in England (rare but beautiful).
* The kid at the bottom of the bridge saying “I think I can“. Cambridge doesn’t really have hills so most cycling is pretty easy. But it does have cycle bridges over the river and over the busy roads. These bridges are steep (low gear in the front, high gear in the back people!), and a little kid of about 6 was contemplating his first ascent with the encouragement of his dad.
* The “eureka moment” look on a yoga student’s face when they realise that the only reason the posture seems difficult is that they are trying too hard!
* The Masterchef final – I haven’t seen it yet as I was teaching last night so don’t tell me who won please!
