friday thoughts: enough space

Writing has been slow this week since coming back from the yoga conference.  I think I’m still processing so much.  One verse that came up last week and I have been reading again and again both to myself and my students, has made me think so much about my asana practice and about my life off the mat.  We need to give ourselves space to move, to breath.  Don’t push, don’t grip, don’t force.  See the spaces, the nothingness, and enjoy them.

So today I will share this with you and let you make your own interpretations.

Thirty spokes share the wheel’s hub
It is the centre hole that is useful.
Shape clay into a vessel
It is the space within that makes it useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room
It is the holes which make it useful.
Therefore profit comes from what is there,
Usefulness from what is not there.

– Tao Te Ching chapter 11 Lao Tsu

Absolutely! Space is Shiva, the hosting element. And Shakti is the creative force. But Shakti can not exist without Shiva. They are entirely entwined and necessary for each other. Enjoy your space!
