things i love thursday (42)

* A good night’s sleep.  I don’t sleep well.  It’s a side effect of the fibromyalgia.  It’s also a pain in the ass.  On Tuesday night I didn’t sleep at all.  I forgot to take my meds, I had things on my mind and my pelvis was on fire (not literally, just metaphorically).  I felt awful all day yesterday but after a solid 6 hours (and yes that is a good night’s sleep to me) I am a new woman.

* Sometimes I am amazed by how much joy and wonder two felines bring to my life.  I have holes in nearly all my clothes from their claws, I am often covered in cat hair, I love them more than a lot of people and it’s only a matter of time before I turn into that scary old lady on the bus who smells of cat wee.  But I don’t care even though they repay my affections by turning their backs on me.

* Downton Abbey – nothing signals autumn to me quite like a period drama on TV on Sunday evenings.  This one is all upstairs/downstairs Edwardian scandal and stars the wonderful Maggie Smith.  Even more decadent is recording it on Sundays and watching it on weekday afternoons.  Sometimes I love my life!

* The offer of a very good deal on a therapy room for massage and one-to-one yoga at one of the studios I teach at as of the new year.  Wowzer!

* Vegan coconut macaroons.  As in British macaroons, not those sickly sweet pastel coloured nonsenses you see all over Paris.  Having said that I’m not sure I like these, but Himself does and they were fun to make.  Would you like the recipe?

OK, melt 20z/50g vegan margarine in a saucepan over a moderate heat.  Add 2oz/50g cornflour until it makes a paste.  Then add 10fl.oz/300ml water and bring to the boil.  Keep stirring until it forms a rather disgusting gloopy mixture (don’t worry that’s meant to happen).

Stir in 6oz/175g dessicated coconut and 2oz/50g sugar and then separate the mixture into little heaps on a greased baking sheet.  It should make about 12.

Bake at 180/350/Gas mark 4.  Now I baked them for 35 minutes but I think they could do with another 10 or 15 minutes to make them crunchier.

I hear you on the sleep! I sleep badly and have disturbed sleep most nights. I usually blame the arthritis, but I’m not sure what it is. On an average night I wake up about 5-6 times! However, in the last few weeks I’ve slept better, and not woken up as many times, and it’s been SO nice! It’s so true, a good night’s sleep (whatever that means to you) makes such a difference.

  2. Sounds yummy! I may try those this weekend.

I’m always covered in cat fur, too. And it’s been especially intense in the last couple of weeks with Miss Kitty’s brush with something that tried to take one of her hind legs off (yes, I’m being dramatic).

I generally function best on 8 hours sleep but have been getting by on around 6 per night this week, which makes me feel a little… pinched. Can’t imagine that being the norm although as I understand it when you have kids, sleep is a privelige, not a right. So I count my blessings there!

Yay for the yoga/massage space. Yay!!
