one word + eleven intentions

Happy New Year!!!

(image)

n.
1.a. Intense and especially ecstatic or exultant happiness.
b. The expression or manifestation of such feeling.
2. A source or an object of pleasure or satisfaction

Last year I chose the word Mindfulness.  Man was that a tough word.  A tough word for a tough year.

But with that mindfulness comes…..JOY!  And the ability to find a little joy whatever the situation.  And this is the year of joy in the small things.  In words, in deeds, in adventures, in hard word and in the mundane everyday as well.

And in honour of 2011 I have 11 intentions (intentions, readers, not resolutions, never resolutions!) all of which come with a sprinkling of joy.

1. Priorities
2010 turned into a year when I was all over the place, a finger in too many pies as it were! This year I intend to prioritise my time a little better. Focus on my work, my writing and some space for me and Himself.

2. Work
Simple one this one, I intend to work hard and to the best of my ability.

3. Relationships
I intend to be as good a partner, daughter, sister, friend, colleague as I’m able. With a joyful smile, even when I don’t feel like it.

4. Yoga
I intend to practice yoga, be that on or off the mat 365 days of this year.

5. Finances
Hmmm… yes well, I intend to get them in much better order this year (don’t laugh, Pa Yogini if you’re reading this!)

6. Writing
I intend to get that novel idea down on paper once and for all.

7. Space
I intend to give myself the space to slack off now and then, space to daydream, space to read, or just listen to music without beating myself up.

8. Fitness/Health
I intend to have a much healthier year this year, to look after myself, get enough rest and enough exercise and to eat well (and really work at getting rid of wheat).

9. Positivity
I have a natural tendency to accentuate the negative. So I intend to at least try and see the positive in every situation.

10. Blogging
I intend to keep up the good work as much as I can. Let me know if there is anything you’d like to see more or less of on the blog!

11. Fun + Adventure
There wasn’t a lot of this in 2010 – and this was partly to do with getting rid of the car and not having the ability to go on spontaneous days to the seaside, and partly to do with moving out of London and not feeling that need to escape every Sunday. But yeah, some more little adventures in 2011 would be nice – 3 weeks in Australia in April’s a good start right? :)

Do you have a word for 2011, or any intentions for the year?

(Kathleen also chose Joy as her word)

My word(s) for this year are: “Cheeky Courage”. Because that seems to like what I’m gonna need for the coming year.

I like your idea of intentions and not resolutions. I’ve got a few for myself, too. Some of yours are similar to mine.

I desperately need to get wheat out of my diet, too. I get very bloaty from eating wheat and I also get a skin rash! Go figure, right? Still not sure what I’m gonna eat my poached eggs on if not an English muffin.

Definitely with you on the yoga 365 on/off the mat. And I also need to be more positive and write more and work out how to write my book, as well as manage my dang finances… more soon x

This is a really inspiring post. I don’t have a 2011 word, mostly because it never occurred to me to pick one until the very last minute and now I have about twenty different words swirling around in my head. :) I’m definitely inspired by your plan to practice every day; I am not aiming quite that high (yet) but I definitely want to practice more often, especially in January since I’m on break from classes most of the month.

I love that word “joy” and love that you’ve chosen it as your word for this year. Wishing you all the best!
